Jeepers Creepers
If you don’t know already, I love horror movies. But when I say ‘horror’ I’m not talkin about any of the BS their putting out these days. I’m not talkin about this “based-on-a-true-story found footage exorcism spirit” nonsense. I guess I’m just old school, but I’m really referring to the movies that I saw as a kid, like 13 Ghosts (2001) The Haunting (1999) and one of my all time favorites, Jeepers Creepers (2001)
I remember seeing this movie for the first time at my grandma’s house and just being blown away by it. It was so simple, yet so gripping, and I didn’t fully appreciate it till I got older. In short, the film is a masterpiece and I have yet to see a movie come close to what this film has achieved! So what I wanna do here is break down the entire movie like I would any other review, but this time using pictures:
I remember seeing this movie for the first time at my grandma’s house and just being blown away by it. It was so simple, yet so gripping, and I didn’t fully appreciate it till I got older. In short, the film is a masterpiece and I have yet to see a movie come close to what this film has achieved! So what I wanna do here is break down the entire movie like I would any other review, but this time using pictures:
1. I love this opening shot, even though its so simple. It doesn’t even feel like a horror movie at this point, just very relaxing and very country.
2. Here we meet the 2 main characters, brother Darry and sister Trish. They bicker alot but you get the feeling they really do care for one another.
3. I love this shot right here. Up front you see the two of them still goofing off, but in the background you see the Creeper slowly riding up on them in his van. It’s also scary cause you see him in the background for like 30 seconds but the music doesn’t kick in till he starts beeping his horn.
4. After a chase like that, they take a break and talk a bit, giving the audience time to cool off and process what the heck is goin on.
5. A little while after they get back on the road, they see this, the creeper dumping ‘something’ down a pipe (which we later find out are bodies) I remember seeing this scene for the first time and getting chills down my spine.
6. Trying to process what they just saw.
7. Horror Movie Rule #1: Bring a charger lol.
8. I always loved shots like this near the tire, even though there aren’t many filmmakers that do it. I know they do this in Final Destination 2 (2003) It really gives you a sense how fast their going, and it adds intensity to the scene.
9. The look of terror lol.
10. Darry convinces her to go back to the church to see if anybody needs help. In this scene you can tell he has alot of compassion for others.
11. I love this look on her face. She’s like “dude your so pathetic” lol.
12. Churches are a big theme in horror movies.
13. The Tunnel of Death!
14. Eventually he climbs and falls into the pipe. I love this shot here, with his arms in the air and lying out like that.
15. This is probably my favorite shot not only in the movie but in horror movies in general. I remember seeing this scene for the first time at my grandma’s house and just being so taken back by it, and no film since (except Legion) has even come close.
16. Eventually they make it back outside and stop by this diner to use a phone.
17. Darry tells the cops what he saw on the wall, but they don’t believe him.
18. This scene is kinda nasty, but I always loved this shot. The sign in the background matches perfectly too, “Tastes so darn good” lol.
19. They later visit this old lady. This image always creeped me out, not being able to see her face.
20. You don’t see it in this image, but I like how he just tosses her to the side like a rag doll lol.
21. I love the look on his face. He’s like “bring it on” lol.
22. The psychic makes it to the end. I mention this cause she’s black, and usually black people are the first ones to die in these kinda movies. A black person not dying in a horror movie is a milestone lol.
23. Love this shot! But not only that, I love how this shot compares with the first shot in the movie: The first shot is super relaxing and calm, but the last shot just blows it out the water!
